So today when i logged in i saw a couple of character names that really ticked me off
so it got me thinking of naming policy and well after spending 30 minutes reading trade chat it also got me thinking about ingame chat moderation.
ok so lets start with naming policy:
i think that general mmo standard rules should apply,this means that you cant name a character after the name of any of the characters from said IP,this means that names like XXxGokuxXX or BRTrunks or FRTrunks shouldnt be allowed.
(i dont mean that the tag of your country like FR or BR shouldnt be allowed,i posted that because it had the word trunks in it)
If you look at other mmos like for example LOTRO you cant name a character legolas and the same goes for swtor and naming a jedi luke skywalker,names like this just kill the inmersion in the game,all mmos based on big IPs follow these rules and so i think that the same rule should be applied here...i know i know,i will get flamed by this but hey these are the forums and this is the place where one can voice his opinion.
now onto to the subject of names that include sexual references,racist references or just plain wrong,if you want to know what plain wrong is just click on the spoiler at the begining of my post,those shouldnt be allowed either.
i noticed that in one of the founders pack you included a token to rename a character so since that feature is already in the game im guessing it wont be much of a problem to use it for characters with the wrong name that need to be changed.
the procedure would be pretty simple,you either use the forums to report the name or if possible you can do it ingame,not sure how hard the coding for that would be but its also a possibility,then your report would be read by a moderator and if he thinks that the name isnt up to the naming policy the next time the player logs in he would get a message saying he needs to rename his character.
last but not least,ingame chat moderation:
in a project of this caliber i doubt there can be a moderator 24/7 moderating the ingame chat,heck even in triple A mmos they dont have them hehe so the easiest way to do this would be to take a screenshot and then in the forums have a special ''clicky'' where you can report said player and send the screenshot to prove your report,then a moderator would review it and take whatever action they deem necessary.
now hear me out,im not saying they should get a ban right away because lets be honest we all have our bad days,easy to get carried away because real life just threw you a curve ball and you posted something in anger,so here we would just use the warning rule,two or three warnings and then if said player continues with his behaviour he would get banned.
these days with everyone being savy in the ways of computers its pretty easy to change your ip so it would be easy for them to make a new account but the fact that they just lost all their characters will maybe make them change their ways in the future and they will think twice about what they type in the game.
well anyway,these are my thoughts on these two subjects.
