i must say i accualy like that idea

Well, not all of the people who have keys are in school. Plus, they might need that amount of time to get some last minute bugs and such worked out. The point of Alpha testing isn't just so people can play the game, but so that they know what the gamers are looking for from their project, so they're looking for the more dedicated testers, most of which are probably college-age. I don't know for sure, just a guess.

And what happens with the people who can't play at the 17th and the following weekend?
All in all you can't find a date that fits for everybody

and at that time people will be able test more

Why? What would happen if the choosen people can't play at the weekend?
You just wanna play the whole weekend that's the reason..
There will be a reason why it will open at the 20th, just accept it.

I agree some people have no free time and must work

I am fine with the set date. We all know that the alpha won't be an hour long. Not to mention that if you really want to play, no work will stop you.

That's true. Not everyone has the time. Im sure there's a reason it's set on the 20th

I second this, the weekend will give a lot of people more time to play and test it out but I feel like they have their reasons for setting it on the 17th.

That would be a great idea! I have school on weekdays as well but I'm afraid Daneos' mind is already made up.
