The authentication failure was due to the servers being down for maintenance.

The DBO Global folder is an administrative folder.
Try running the game as admin. -

Have you tried running it as Win7 in compatibility mode?
Also are you running DBOG or DBOGLauncher? -
And he's already downloaded the patch and everything with DBOGLauncher.exe (running it in admin) ?

Just click on the whitescreen with the cursor and wait a few moments.
That's what I usually do when receiving white/black screen. -
And is he running DBOG.exe or DBOGLauncher.exe?

Also, have you downloaded the latest English patch that was released yesterday? You don't need the launcher for that one, only DBOG.exe
