Something I noticed is that when it came to the pots there were two versions: one for MAs and one for Spirits. With that and the shouting effect MAs have that Spirits don't have, is it possible that the Super Saiyan form is coded differently between the two classes, or could this simply be a bug?

Potions are rarely use by players. Its mostly based about transformation. Spiritualist have more ENG stats so its easier to keep SSJ.

These kids don't understand... I think they are different because one might be based on certain stats. (MA physical and Spirits energy) I don't really know though.

I doubt it otherwise Namekians and Majins would have the same issue.

not really, once a majin or a yoshi transform those skills they can use are only one type
phys for nameks
energy for majins
but ssjs can use their normal skills
