BUILD HELPER UPDATE - 7/27/2018
Just like the Fighter Build Helper
Postimage died, so I went ahead and restored all the pictures and also updated the Build Helper to reflect the current version of DBOG. My last Build Helper was based off the assumption everything would become like retail. One problem is that I don't play a Swordsman in the Open Beta, so I have no personal experience with recent changes like the Major Speed Up skill.
Fortunately, their overall playstyle is still the same. Swordsmen take a TON of time and investment, but unless Daneos decides to nerf them again, I think they'll definitely be viable when the lvl70 cap hits. -
Great work echoson

So I've read this guide and saw several other builds and I have an idea what to do but... I can't really decide if i shold go physical, energy or hybrid. I saw many physcial videos, is there anyone that can explain the difference more and/or show me something to help understand?

Most swordsmen will tell you to go physical. It hits the hardest and has plenty of utility for PvP and end-game dungeon PvE, even if it's not the best choice for farming or questing. I try to give arguments for both sides, though. Energy and hybrid swordsmen are obviously better for farming and have a little more utility. They're not waaaay behind in damage compared to physical swordsmen either. In fact, using energy/mixed attacks can be a good tactic to cut through your enemy's defenses, who will often have physical defense stacked against you.
If you're not sure, go physical. It's both easier, hits harder, and your auto-attacks are physical which will be important in speed parties. Swordsmen are terrible at farming anyway until they get specialized max-level equipment. They're at their best 1v1. -

I wouldn't say they're terrible when it comes to farming. With their massive CD buffs plus the animation buff from SSJ, you can easily clear mobs by spamming your physical skills, which are faster than your energy skills. I went with this route and I found myself clearing areas faster than my Turtle. That being said, their are better classes for farming such as Dark Warrior and Turtle Hermit.

About a hybrid set then, i read at some places that I still need to focus on one attack for more damage, so i can either make a hybrid that mostly depends on physical or a hybrid that mostly depends on energy. How much is this true and effective?
And also, are hybrid and energy builds also effective in pvp, or is physical the only way to do well at pvp? -
